What is Voltage and Current?

Voltage (volts) is the measure of electrical potential and Current (amps) signifies the amount of electricity flowing through the wires in your home. Both volts & amps are necessary to provide electricity for your household appliances.

  • Does the voltage get measured by a Wireless Electricity Monitor?
    No. The voltage is nominally fixed in accordance with country regulations (110v, 120v, 220v, 230v, 240v) and these voltage settings can be selected on the display.
  • What voltage should I be selecting for South Africa?
    In the South Africa our electricity supply has been 220V.
  • What is power?
    Power is the product of the Voltage x Current, and is measured in Watts. A watt is the amount of energy being transferred to or from somewhere each second.
  • What is a kilowatt(kW)?
    A kilowatt is 1000 watts
  • What is a Kilowatt hour (kWh)
    A kilowatt hour is equivalent to 1000 watts being used for the duration of 1 hour. ie Operating 10 standard 100W Light Bulbs at the same time for one hour.
